General Questions/New to Joomla! 5.x • Menu Item Alias Returns 404

I'm including the FPA below.
I'm a very new Joomla! user. I've installed version 5 on my machine and it seems to be working—the administrator section seems to be working find, I can create categories, articles, and menu items.

I've created a Category list menu item with the title Experiments Menu Item. It has an alias of experiments-menu-item and a link index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=2:
When I preview my site and click on the menu item, it requests the alias, but a 404 error is returned:
If I paste the link into the browser address field, it returns a page with the expected content:
What's wrong here? Thanks in advance!
